PAR for the course Published Aug. 14, 2008 By Airman Sondra Wieseler 49th Fighter Wing Public Affairs HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- As one of the many quality of life improvements being made at Holloman AFB, it was recently announced that the Fitness and Sports Center here will transform it's one-mile outdoor track into a total fitness trail. The par course, which is described as a running trail with fitness equipment along the way, will offer eight different stations along the perimeter of the track, and will be comprised of 12 pieces of equipment. The idea is to offer Team Holloman a different form of workout that combines a cardiovascular workout, a running component and a strength component, said 1st Lt. Ronnie Miller, 49th Force Support Squadron officer in charge of fitness and sports programs. "We are focused on bringing meaningful opportunities to the base populous to make a healthy and fit lifestyle -- something that is not only a fundamental component of their professional career, but a chance to engage in fun, challenging, diverse and ultimately satisfying fitness opportunities," he said. The par course will not only offer the enjoyment of fresh air and changing scenery, but will also provide another avenue for after-hour exercising regardless of time and work schedules, he added. According to the Lieutenant, Holloman will spend $9,200 on funding the par course and the 49th Civil Engineer Squadron and the 49 FSS will install the equipment around the track. The new course is part of many quality of life initiatives being put into action in support of one goal at Holloman AFB. "This is all about taking care of our Airmen, continually increasing their fitness levels, and improving their quality of life," said Col. Michael McGee, 49th Fighter Wing vice commander. Par course construction is slated to begin in September.
