Germans attend Airman Leadership School Published July 25, 2008 By Senior Airman Tiffany Trojca 49 FW/PA HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Team Holloman lives, works and plays as one team. Facilities are shared between Army Soldiers, German Airmen and members of the tenant units. In addition to its facilities, Holloman also opens the doors of its professional military education to our partners in defense. Two German Air Force members are currently attending Airman Leadership School at Holloman. It has been four years since Germans have participated in the class. The school is mandatory for Air Force Senior Airmen prior to pinning on staff sergeant but the Germans that were selected volunteered for the opportunity. "This is a once in a lifetime chance to attend another country's military school," said Staff Sgt. Christian Paul, German Air Force, 2nd Line Maintenance Squadron. "It will help me to become better at speaking English and get to know more people, I'm also interested in how the U.S. Air Force works." For some German volunteers it's more for the integrated culture experience. "I volunteered to experience other military cultures and form friendships with members of the U.S. Air Force. I also hope to take with me different leadership skills and maybe a different point of view," said Sergeant Bartos Trojca, German Air Force, 1st Line Maintenance Squadron. "It's a great feeling and an honor to have been chosen for ALS and to learn with such great Airmen." Sergeant Trojca and Sergeant Paul were both specifically selected by their first sergeants to attend ALS. "I chose Sergeant Trojca because he tries very hard to always be correct, he speaks English very well and he's married to an American," said Senior Master Sgt. Joachim Reicherter, 2nd Line Maintenance Squadron First Sergeant. "I felt Sergeant Paul was a good choice because he speaks English well and I thought he'd be the best Airman to represent the German Air Force," said Chief Master Sgt. Wolfram Kindervater, 1st Line Maintenance Squadron First Sergeant and Command Chief of the German Flight Training Center. The American Airmen attending the class like having German classmates to look to for knowledge on a different military culture. Some students also find it helpful that the German Airmen attending class have already become staff sergeants. "We have our own traditions and they have theirs, we learn from each other. It helps that they've become staff sergeants already. They are classmates we can talk to about their style of leadership," said Senior Airman Alfenor Agmata, 49th Logistics Readiness Squadron. The class will graduate ALS August 12th and celebrate with a graduation banquet in their honor.
