Keeping the dorms looking presentable and clean is an integral part of living in the dorms for Airmen.

Bay Orderly is accomplished by the Airmen living in that particular dorm and their job while on it is to keep the dorms clean and in good living conditions.

"Bay orderly is important because it shows the Airmen living there responsibility and also helps the dorms keep a more professional appearance," said Senior Airmen Will Vanbrackle, 49th Security Forces, building facility manager.

The dorm manager sends out a schedule to all the units and the Airmen leave their normal duty job to do bay orderly before returning back to work.

"My schedule is set up Wednesday to Tuesday and, the Airmen are selected by the last time they had it," said Airman Vanbrackle. "We try not to give it to the same person more than once a year."

While on this duty, details include cleaning up outside the dorms, picking up trash, sweeping and cleaning up laundry rooms and other common areas.

Tech. Sgt. Jonathon Cinn, 49th Aircraft Maintenance dorm manager, said the Airmen also help out with self-help projects around the dorm such as painting.

Other incentives for keeping the dorms looking nice are the quarterly contests.

"Another reason to keep the dorms clean is that there is a contest every quarter called Dorm of the Quarter, and the winning dorm receives anywhere between $1,500 and $2,000 to spend on what the Airmen want, such as furniture or video game systems," said Airman Vanbarckle.

Although some Airmen may not like spending their day cleaning up the dorms in physical training gear, it is an essential element for the Airmen's dorm experience, and necessary to keep the dorms in quality condition.
