Published June 12, 2008 By Airman 1st Class Michael Means 49th Fighter Wing Public Affairs HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- In today's Air Force, Airmen must have personal Financial Responsibility according to AFI 36-2906. Learn the trick of the trade for saving, budgeting and building your wealth from experts who can help you with investing and money management to provide the best source of personal financial guidance. The Airmen and Family Readiness Center offers a Personal Financial Management Program (PFMP) that offers information, education and personal financial counseling to help individuals and families maintain financial stability and reach their financial goals. Upon arrival on Holloman, PFMP provides education to all first term airmen as they go through the First Term Airman's Course (FTAC). They learn facts about personal financial management, checkbook maintenance, budgeting, credit, buying, state or country liability laws and local fraudulent business practices. "The PFMP taught in FTAC is very educational," said Airman 1st Class Karla Jimenez, 49th Civil Engineer Squadron. "The information we learned helps us first term Airmen to get started on the right track." The Airmen and Family Readiness Center also offers one-on-one counseling. One-on-one appointments provide information regarding debt liquidation plans, debt management programs, cost cutting tips, budgets, W-4 withholding estimates, credit report concerns, retirement planning and more. "We offer something for everyone," said Mr. Joe Wilson, community readiness consultant. "We have many financial services that provide a stepping stone all the way to professional financial management." PFMP has classes for first time homebuyers which teach fundamentals of the home buying process, VA benefits, closing costs and pre-paying a mortgage; they also hold classes such as Bundles for Babies which provides costs of raising a baby, budget considerations, helping agencies and tax advantages.
