A Holloman Middle School teacher was recently recognized by the local Air Force Association of their Chapter Teacher of the Year.

Air Force Association Chapter Teacher of the Year is awarded to classroom teachers nominated throughout New Mexico. They are recognized at the chapter level for accomplishments and achievements in inspiring students in the subjects of math and science.

"We ask the teachers to nominate and write a page summary on the teacher who they felt would fit the qualifications of being an outstanding teacher," said Ms. Maria Showalter, HMS principal. "Then the nominations were given to me and in turn I wrote a letter of recommendation supporting why this teacher should be selected for the award."

Ms. Linda Pehr, a math teacher, was selected. Some of her accomplishments include starting programs like Math Mania and Math Counts, which are programs designed to get kids more comfortable with math.

She is also the math department's team leader and was also selected as teacher of the year while teaching in the country of Berlin.

"It's quite an honor to be selected for this award, it's always nice to be recognized by doing the things you do on a daily basis and people recognize its good work," said Ms. Pehr.

Ms. Pehr was presented with a certificate and check at a ceremony at the school pep rally.

"It was a great honor to present the award to Ms. Pehr," said Ms. Sydnee Vinson, Air Force Association chapter president. "It's also wonderful to see that my organization is doing something that directly involves our educational system because that's where we find and develop the young leaders of tomorrow; and teachers like Ms. Pehr are the ladies who help us in that endeavor!"
