The 12th Air Force and Air Forces Southern commander visited Holloman Air Force Base Aug. 28-29 to discover the quality of life programs here.

Lt. Gen. Norman Seip also held a commander's call to give Airmen a chance to ask questions and receive answers about current programs and events throughout the Air Force.

During the commander's call, General Seip answered questions about Force Shaping and how it will slow down in the coming years, how long Airmen are going to be deployed for and what training initiatives there will be for the upcoming bed down of the F-22A Raptor.

"We were the first ones in and we'll be the last ones out," said the general about Airmen deployed in support of the War on Terror. "As long as the Army, Marines, Navy and Air Force are on the ground, there will be airpower."

The general also said that with the F-22 coming to Holloman, some maintainers will go back to school, some will be trained by instructors at the base and some will move on to other weapons systems elsewhere.

"With the bed down and the eventual retirement of the F-117A Nighthawk, Holloman and the Air Force is giving up a great capability, but bringing on a fifth generation stealth," said General Seip. "We are making a quantum leap in capability, with new capabilities being found every day."

Airmen all around 12 AF have a chance to ask a question and get the answer straight from General Seip with his new Web forum on the Air Force Portal.

"Airmen are leaving insightful questions and comments," he said. "They force me to do my homework."

General Seip tries to answer all questions himself, and if he has to do some research, he will let the Airman know he's on top of it.

Brig. Gen. David Goldfein, 49th Fighter Wing commander, was appreciative of General Seip's visit and his interest in Holloman.

"General Seip has the best interest of our Airmen at heart," General Goldfein said.

General Seip was pleased during his visit to Holloman, praising Airmen for their service.
"You are a world class team of world class professionals, producing world class results," he said. "Team Holloman gets it and it is an honor to serve alongside it. Holloman is very much the reason the Air Force is as strong, lethal and respected as it is."
