Air Force Space Command general visits Holloman

The commander of Air Force Space Command recently came to Holloman for a visit to a tenant unit here under his command. 

Gen. Kevin Chilton visited the 4th Space Control Squadron, which provides combat space superiority effects to the commander, Joint Space Operations, and theater Combatant Commanders. The squadron is a geographically separated unit assigned to the 21st Space Wing, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. 

"The counter communications operations provided by the men and women of the 4 SPCS is vitally important to the nation's engagement in the global War on Terror and to the overall mission of Air Force Space Command," said the general. "These professionals are ready to deploy globally to conduct space superiority operations of every regional combatant commander." 

While at Holloman, General Chilton met with local civic leaders and received a briefing on the upcoming air and space show scheduled to take place at Holloman Oct. 27-28.
Overall, the general was impressed with the Airmen of Holloman. 

"I am impressed with the tremendous professionalism and dedication of the men and women at Holloman," he said. "I'm also appreciative of the great support provided to our space professionals and their families by the 49th Fighter Wing. I've noticed the pride of the people and the enthusiasm they have for living and working here. The men and women of the 4 SPCS perform a vital mission and I am proud to have them on our Air Force Space Command team." 

General Chilton is a distinguished graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy Class of 1976. He joined the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in 1987 where he flew on three space shuttle missions and served as the deputy program manager for operations for the International Space Station Program. He returned to wearing the Air Force uniform after working for NASA for 11 years.
