49 MDG hosting annual health fair Published May 14, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Heather Stanton 49th Fighter Wing Public Affairs HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The 49th Medical Group is hosting their annual health fair May 18 at the Fitness and Sports Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The health fair is being held to celebrate National Fitness and Sports Month and will coincide with Holloman's Safety and Sports Day. The goal of this event is for people to be aware of health prevention measures to include eating right, exercising and not smoking, said Maj. Donnell Nicks 49 MDG. There will be raffles and giveaways throughout the day. In addition to the obvious benefits of healthy living, it is cheaper to keep people healthy through prevention methods than after a health problem has come up, said Ms. Janet Weatherly, 49th Aeromedical Dental Squadron Health and Wellness Center. The day will kick off with a wing run at 7:49 a.m. and continue with demonstrations such as kick boxing, martial arts, Thera-band workouts and proper body mechanics. Outside the fitness center, a go-cart simulating what it's like to drive drunk will be on hand for Safety Day. Then Sports Day activities will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and include three-on-three basketball, four-on-four volleyball, one-pitch softball, a bowling tournament, a four-person 100 meter swim relay and tug-of-war. The 49 MDG will close at noon on Friday in order to support the health fair and participate in Safety and Sports Day.
