Why we remember Published April 18, 2007 By Airman 1st Class Alvaro Maldanado 49th Logistics Readiness Squadron HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Why do we need to remember the Holocaust in today's society? We respect the memory of the Holocaust because it helps us shape the world we live in today. We are reminded of the events that occurred and we learn. And as we learn, we advise future generations of the consequences humanity has suffered. In this era we remember those who have fallen, and those survived through a commemorative event. The Holocaust Remembrance is a reflective event whose purpose is to raise awareness in our diverse society. It emphasizes our rights and responsibilities as citizens. It provides insight to recent events that raise similar issues. Holocaust Remembrance Day denotes honor and respect. It should augment our tolerance of others and broaden our view on humanity. On this day of remembrance, we tear down our own personal barriers and rejoice in freedom and peace of mind. Holloman's Holocaust Remembrance Ceremony will take place April 26 at Heritage Park. The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Enlisted Club parking lot with a remembrance walk from the club to the park.
