A new postmaster was sworn in during a ceremony at Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico, Oct. 19, 2022.

Richard J. Merrick, who has 18 years of experience working in the U.S. Postal Service, was formally recognized as the new postmaster at the ceremony after accepting the position in June 2022.

“I love being in this position, in this office,” said Merrick. “I’m here to work for you. When you walk through my doors, it doesn’t matter if you’re a slick-sleeve Airmen or a four-star general, I’m here to help everyone.”

His position is comparable to that of a squadron commander, responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Holloman post office, which provides USPS services to Airmen and families living on base in addition to official mail for the many members of Team Holloman.

Merrick joined the U.S. Army in 1985, serving some time at Holloman before his enlistment was completed. He worked as a transportation delivery driver before starting his USPS service at the Alamogordo post office in 2004.

“Rich is committed to taking care of the community,” said Paul Pantoja, USPS post office operations manager and officiating officer of the ceremony. “I knew that he would have our Airmen’s best interests at heart because we just want to take care of you guys.”
