HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- The 49th Wing hosted a Memorial Day ceremony to unite the Team Holloman community in honoring all U.S. service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense and support of the nation. More than 30 family members of fallen service members attended the ceremony alongside the Team Holloman community to honor the sacrifice of their sons and daughters, husbands and wives, and brothers and sisters. Memorial Day originated as Decoration Day in the years following the Civil War, where the graves of fallen service members were adorned with flowers, and after gaining prominence over time, the tradition was officially established as a national holiday on the final Monday of May by Congress in 1968.
