Holloman Airmen and base personnel will have the opportunity to help their wingmen in need by donating to The Air Force Assistance Fund Campaign Mar. 23- May 1, 2015.

AFAF, the official United States Air Force charity, supports the AF mission by providing worldwide emergency assistance to members and their families.

"This [AFAF] will give everyone an opportunity to help our fellow Airmen when they need it most," said Col. Robert E. Kiebler, 49th Wing commander. "The AFAF campaign supports four charities that are dedicated to caring for Airmen from induction through retirement and beyond."

The four charities that are involved in AFAF are the Air Force Aid Society, General and Mrs. Curtis E. LeMay Foundation, the Air Force Village, and the Air Force Enlisted Village.

Holloman's goal this year is to reach all active-duty members on base and raise $61,920. Those who wish to get involved can donate directly, or participate in fundraising events within their units.

"The Air Force Aid Society provides interest free loans, emergency grants, educational grants, as well as community programs for new parents and deployed members," said Master Sgt. Lee Evertsen, 311th Air Mobility Unit section support chief.  "Holloman personnel received over $268,000 last year in aid from The Air Force Aid Society in 2014.  In contrast to our goal, anyone can see how important it is to donate to such a worthy cause."

Over its 73-year life, AFAF has made significant impacts in emergency assistance, educational programs and community programs. In 2014 alone, direct assistance totaled $16.9 million and assisted more than 61,000 Air Force members and their families.

"Just a few dollars a month from your paycheck will ensure your fellow Airmen will have the assistance they need when they need it most," said Kiebler. "And, you may just find in the future that you have 'paid it forward', and our AFAF charities will be there for you should you ever need them."
