Holloman's men's softball team recently participated in their first tournament, the 2014 Commanders Cup, at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas. The team placed fifth out of 16 other competing teams.

The team is comprised of 20 individuals, including enlisted and civilian personnel from various squadrons across the base.

The team will continue playing in tournaments throughout the year, their next one being the United States Specialty Sports Association Military National Invitational tournament at Nellis Air Force Base Nev., April 12-13. This tournament will be comprised of teams formed through other military associations including Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security.

Self-described newcomer Charles Bazdanes from the 49th Wing Contracting Squadron states, "We have a strong veteran presence that has been able to guide and lead a group of 20 individuals to come together for a common goal in representing Holloman Air Force Base with integrity, service before self and excellence in all we do."

The team is also backed by two potential candidates of the All-Air Force Softball Team, Staff Sgt. Kenneth Henderson, team outfielder from the 6th Reconnaissance Squadron, and Tech. Sgt Chris Bohrman, team infielder from the 49th Wing Material Maintenance Squadron.

"The commanders and senior leadership of Holloman have given their full support in representing the base, for which we are very grateful," said Bazdanes.
