There will be a different kind of wings flying above Holloman this winter that you should be on the lookout for.

On select weekends from October through January Lagoon G and Lake Holloman will be open to the public for duck hunting. To participate in this hunting season, you must receive a hunting briefing from 1st Lt. Chris Cashen, 49th Civil Engineer Squadron installation manager, and upon completion you will receive a certificate granting permission to enjoy your mornings scanning the skies above Holloman AFB.

The briefing will cover dates available to hunt, where you are allowed to hunt, weapon control, awareness of other hunters and other basic safety procedures.

Access on to the base hunt will be restricted to Department of Defense ID card holders only, and the safety briefing must be completed before you are allowed to hunt.

Participating in duck hunting is not only something fun for the avid hunter, but will also help the base.

"Allowing duck hunting on base helps with the Bird Aircraft Strike Hazard (BASH) program which decreases the number of potential aircraft bird strikes," said Cashen.

If you are interested and have questions or would like to schedule an appointment for your brief, call the civil engineering installation management office at 572-3406 or 572-6675.
