Wing commander holds Holloman town hall meeting

HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. --  The 49th Wing commander hosted a town hall meeting Oct. 29 at the Desert Sands Club here to field questions from Holloman service members and their families. The meeting also gave base agencies a chance to provide important information and answer questions.

During the meeting, Col. Andrew Croft, 49th Wing commander, along with other senior leaders addressed questions and concerns from the base community and provided updates on upcoming changes to the base.

Some of the changes announced were an accessible community park, which will be built next to the soccer field, construction of a touch- free automatic car wash and the addition of a high ropes course.

"The best way for people to inform leadership what they want is to vote with their dollars," said Col. Kevin Bennett, 49th Mission Support Group commander.

For services to remain on base, members of team Holloman need to utilize these facilities, or there is a chance they will be closed in the future.

Road and parking lot construction will continue along with construction of the new Child Development Center, projected for completion in May of 2014 as a result of tightening defense budget.

Due to services cuts as a result of sequestration, a fee will be required to attend Fitness Center aerobics classes not lead by military instructors. Beginning Nov. 22 the fee will be $3 per class or $2 per class if purchased in a bulk. For more information about these changes visit www.hollomanfss.com.

"Team Holloman has done some great things this year, such as receiving the Air Combat Command 2013 Outstanding Unit Award and Commander In Chief's Installation Excellence Award along with the Holloman Middle School being selected as National Blue Ribbon School," said Bennett.

"I feel the event went well, and we covered a lot of concerns," said Croft. We hope that those who attended will spread the word about what they learned today and that if people see things that leadership cannot to let us know. Having a thousand eyes out there is much better than ten."
