HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. - Members of Team Holloman were invited to participate in this year's sixth annual National Night Out Oct. 1, sponsored by Soaring Heights Communities.

National Night Out is a community-police awareness-raising event in the United States, held the first Tuesday in August. The event strives to increase awareness about police programs in communities, such as drug prevention, town watch, neighborhood watch, and other anti-crime efforts.

"Local venders are here tonight to help inform the public of the resources that are available outside the walls of the base such as local banks and business," said Patricia Wilson, residents' services coordinator with Soaring Heights Communities. "We also have local law enforcement at the event to showcase their support in the fight for a safer community."

The event has been held annually since 1984 and is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in the US and Canada.

"We also incorporated this event with family fun fest, which included free food and games for families, and to close the event, Soaring Heights gave away prizes to base residents such as an Apple i-Pad and i-Pad mini," said Wilson.

"The National Night Out served as a way for the members of Team Holloman to show they are informed and prepared and aware of outside agencies that help protect their community," said Wilson.
