Airman realizes honor of being AF broadcaster while covering Bataan
WHITE SANDS MISSLE RANGE, N.M. -- Airmen 1st Class Siuta Ika, Joshua Turner and Mari Mosteller, all from the 49th Wing Public Affairs Office, on March 27, 2011, covered the Bataan Memorial Death March for print, photo and broadcast stories. Airman Mosteller trained with the Senior NCO team to prepare for covering the march. WSMR memorial marathon eternalizes Bataan Death March
WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. -- Participants of the 22nd Annual Bataan Memorial Death March trek through the 26.2-mile desert trail March 27, 2011. On April 9, 1942, 75,000 Army, Army Air Corps, Navy, Marines and Filipino soldiers were surrendered to Japanese forces. Forced to march 60 miles in the sweltering heat through the Philippine jungles, thousands of soldiers died in transit to prisoner-of-war camps. The event, attended by a record number of more than 6,000 marchers, commemorates the original Bataan Death March which occurred in the Philippines during World War II.
