Holloman's Commander and Command Chief go hands-on in the lab
Airman 1st Class Gabriele Santini, a 49th Medical Group medical laboratory technician, tests and analyzes urine samples at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., Aug. 19 for Col. Robert Kiebler, the 49th Wing commander. Every week, the wing commander and the wing command chief make a face-to-face and hands-on visit to different parts of the base to get to know airmen and learn about their contribution to the mission. This week’s trip to the 49th Medical Group was focused on the medical laboratory where they learned about phlebotomy, urinalysis, hematology and chemistry. Holloman receives Pete Taylor Partnership of Excellence Award

The 54th Fighter Group, a detachment of the 56th Fighter Wing at Luke Air Force Base, Ariz., activated the 314th Fighter Squadron here. Their mission is to produce the world’s greatest F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter pilots and deploy combat mission ready Airmen. The 314th FS was first activated July 6, 1942. During that time, the unit deployed to serve with Ninth Air Force in Egypt, where it took part in the Western Desert Campaign of World War II. Lt. Col. Andrew Caggiano, 314th Fighter Squadron commander, accepts the 314th FS guidon from Col. Jeffrey Jenssen, 54th Fighter Group commander as part of the 314th FS activation ceremony at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M., on July 14. Caggiano graduated with military distinction from the United States Air Force Academy in 1997. He earned his pilot wings at Euro-NATO Joint Jet pilot Training in 1999 at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas. He is a command pilot with over 1,850 hours in the F-16 Fighting Falcon. The mission of the 314th FS is to produce the world’s greatest F-16 Fighting Falcon pilots and deploy combat mission-ready Airmen to units worldwide.
