Dr. Suess birthday celebration
HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. – Master Sgt. Tamara Kissinger, 49th Operations Support Squadron first sergeant, reads “The Cat in the Hat” March 2 at the base library for the birthday celebration of Theodor Geisel, who is more commonly known as “Dr. Seuss.” “The Cat in the Hat,” which was published in 1957, has been made into several television adaptations and a film adaptation that was released in 2003. AF firefighter saves police officer’s life
Staff Sgt. Lionel Garcia, a 49th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighter, poses for a photo Feb. 23, at Holloman Air Force Base, N.M. While on leave in San Antonio, Garcia saved the life of a police officer who was struck by a passing motorist Feb. 19. The officer is expected to make a full recovery. Wounded Warrior
SAN MARCOS, Texas –- U.S. Army Sgt. Stephen Evans, a combat medic who is now a Wounded Warrior, dumps the water out of his kayak here Feb. 18. Evans began rehabilitation from his injury sustained in Iraq at the Brooks Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, three years ago. An important part of his rehabilitation has been his ability to kayak and participate in the activities he enjoys on a regular basis. Evans sustained a critical injury causing lower limb paralysis while serving in Iraq three years ago. Wounded Warrior
SAN MARCOS, Texas –- Ben Kvanli, a former Olympian who is now a kayaking instructor with the Red River Racing Team and head of the Team River Runner chapter in Texas, paddles through the water in his kayak here Feb. 19. Ben spent nearly his whole life kayaking in the Texas region, and competed in the white-water slalom event at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. He now manages the Red River Racing Team and supports a group of instructors that aim to help developing paddlers in the sport. SAN MARCOS, Texas –- Kelley Liddicoet, an Air Force spouse, U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Jennifer Pemp, physical therapist with the 49th Medical Operations Squadron, and U.S Air Force Senior Airman Justin Boyce, heating ventilation and air conditioning maintainer with the 49th Civil Engineer Squadron, sit around a campfire after a day of kayaking. Airmen a spouse and a civilian participating in the Holloman Outdoor Wingman Program came to San Marcos to gain a basic understanding of the principles of kayaking and to learn to apply the same critical thinking skills to everyday life.
