William Eldridge, a retired U.S. Army master sergeant, poses for a photo at White Sands Missile Range, N.M., March 24. Eldridge was taken prisoner by Japanese soldiers for three and a half years, and endured many hardships, including the Bataan Death March. After he was freed, Eldridge went on to serve 18 more years in the Army, and to this date, is the last surviving member of his unit, Company M, 31st Regiment.
