SAN MARCOS, Texas –- U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Jennifer Pemp, physical therapist with the 49th Medical Operations Squadron, carries her kayak out of the San Marcos River after a day of instruction and kayaking Feb. 19. Airmen a spouse and a civilian participating in the Holloman Outdoor Wingman Program came to San Marcos to gain a basic understanding of the principles of kayaking and to learn to apply the same critical thinking skills to everyday life. Each Airman, spouse and civilian walked away with a better understanding of both how to manage themselves on a white-water rapid and how to cope through the stress of work in a healthy way. Staff Sgt. Erin O’Connell, a solar analyst with the 2nd Weather Squadron, Det. 4, creates a sunspot drawing from a projected image of the sun at the Holloman Solar Observatory on Sept. 24. Sunspots are temporary phenomena on the visible surface of the sun that appear visibly as dark spots compared to surrounding regions. The solar analysts closely monitor this information in order to safeguard and protect important assets in both civilian and Department of Defense agencies.
