HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- A commemorative 50th Anniversary replica sled of "The Fastest Man On Earth," Col. John Paul Stapp, is displayed at the 846th Test Squadron Sled Park July 16, 2010. In 1954, Colonel Stapp rode on the Holloman High Speed Test Track at 632 miles per hour, and came to a dead stop in 1.4 seconds. He was subjected to more than 40 times the pull of gravity proving that this kind of deceleration could be survived. The 50th Anniversary commemorative sled was designed to replicate the sled Colonel Stapp rode in the original ride -- the "Sonic Wind." (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Sondra Escutia)
