P-51D (serial unknown) Creamer?s Dream of 1Lt. Charles White, 301st FS, Ramitelli, Italy, January 1945

White, who hailed from St. Louis, Missouri, Joined the 100th FS as a replacement in late 1944. His vociferous protestations about the condition of his first assigned aircraft (a P-51C) resulted in him eventually being given one of the group?s first P-51Ds. The artwork applied below the cockpit was presented in a frontal view on the right side of the aeroplane and a rear view on the left side ? the images were uniform thanks to the use of a template. White was flying this aircraft when he destroyed two Bf 109s on 1 April 1945. (U.S. Air Force art)
