James Holness and Airman 1st Class Samuel Williams, both with the 849th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, tighten sway braces during the December load crew competition Dec. 17, 2010. HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Airman 1st Class Geoffrey Schellhase, 49th Maintenance Squadron, has his blood pressure taken during the Armed Services Blood Drive screening at the Community Activity Center Dec. 6, 2010. With increased military operations and humanitarian relief efforts being supported by servicemembers, there is an increased need for blood for all U.S. military personnel. The blood drive was sponsored by the Blood Donor Center at William Beaumont Army Medical Center. Members from the WBAMC travel to military installations throughout the southwest region of the U.S. to collect blood donations from military members, their families and civilans with access to the different installations. Firefighters perform structural fire exercise
HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Airman 1st Class Tristan Cooper, 49th Civil Engineer Squadron firefighter, advances a quick attack fire line to the front door of a simulated burning building during a monthly structural fire exercise Dec. 1, 2010. Airman Cooper and other firefighters participated in the exercise where they are required to clear the room, put the fire out and rescue any occupants. Throughout the year firefighters are required to perform egress training on the F-22 Raptor, GR1 Tornado and the T-38 aircraft as well. They also train on hazardous materials, confined spaces and special operations to maintain their Defense International Fire Service Accreditation Congress certifications. HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Eric Murillo, a firefighter with the 49th Civil Engineer Squadron, operates a water pump on a 2010 Rescue Pumper during a monthly structural fire exercise Dec. 1, 2010. Mr. Murillo also maintained personnel accountability with his fire crash radio as part of the exercise. Throughout the year firefighters are required to perform egress training on the F-22 Raptor, GR1 Tornado and the T-38 aircraft as well. Firefighters use this training to prepare for the Operational Readiness Inspection by improving their response procedures for suspicious packages and emergency response to Weapons of Mass Destruction and other terrorist threats. The exercise tested Mr. Murillo and other firefighters on their ability to respond to put out a simulated fire, while rescuing the occupants of a smoke filled room. Water plant ensures quality, distributes quantity
HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Mark Stevenson, a water plant operator for the 49th Civil Engineer Squadron, counts the drops of titrant solution needed to identify the intensity of calcium present in Holloman's potable water during a test Nov. 30, 2010. He and other water plant operators test the potable water daily to measure the calcium and chlorine levels to insure it is adequately disinfected.
