Colonel takes final flight
HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Col. Robert McCutchen, 56th Fighter Wing at Luke AFB Ariz., taxis beneath a celebratory water arch, April 20, 2011, after completing his final flight. Colonel McCutchen, a command pilot with more than 5,000 hours in the F-16 Fighting Falcon, chose the historic F-4 Phantom for his final flight before retirement. Holloman is one of only a few bases that actively fly this aircraft. Entering service in 1960, the aircraft changed the landscape of airpower worldwide and served with distinction in Vietnam, Korea and Desert Storm and was retired from active service in 1996. HOLLOMAN AIR FORCE BASE, N.M. -- Col. Robert McCutchen, 56th Fighter Wing at Luke AFB, Ariz., returns from his final flight in the U.S. Air Force April 20, 2011. Colonel McCutchen, a command pilot with more than 5,000 hours in the F-16 Fighting Falcon, chose the historic F-4 Phantom for his final flight before retirement. Colonel McCutchen visited the base April 19-21 to visit facilities that could potentially house F-16 training squadrons when they relocate from Luke to Holloman, scheduled for fiscal year 2012.
